FG Declares Two-Day Public Holiday for Eid-el-Kabir Celebration
Federal Government announces May 27 and 28 holidays as Muslims prepare for Eid-ul-Adha festivities
The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, May 27, and Thursday, May 28, 2026, as public holidays in celebration of Eid-el-Kabir, one of the most important festivals in Islam.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through a statement released on Monday by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani.
According to the statement, the decision reflects the government’s recognition of the religious and cultural importance of Eid-ul-Adha to millions of Muslims in Nigeria and around the world.
Tunji-Ojo congratulated Muslim faithful both within Nigeria and in the diaspora, describing the festival as a period that symbolizes sacrifice, obedience to God, and compassion toward others.
He encouraged Nigerians to take advantage of the holiday period to pray for national peace, unity, security, and economic progress.
The minister also urged citizens to promote peaceful coexistence and strengthen the spirit of brotherhood during the celebration.
The Federal Government further wished Muslims across the country a joyful, peaceful, and spiritually fulfilling Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
