Outrage As Over 50 Children Allegedly Collapse After Tear Gas Incident At Edo Children’s Day Event
Children’s Day celebrations in Edo State have sparked widespread reactions online after reports claimed that more than 50 children allegedly collapsed during the event and were rushed to the hospital for treatment.
According to viral reports circulating on social media, the incident occurred during the Children’s Day celebration held on May 27, 2026, after tear gas was allegedly discharged at the venue.
Eyewitness accounts shared online claimed that security personnel were responsible for the incident, although reports also stated that the Edo State Government allegedly blamed “bouncers” attached to the event instead.
The affected children were reportedly taken to the Edo State Central Hospital for medical attention following the chaos.
The viral statement read in part:
“This is heartbreaking. During the Children’s Day event in Edo State yesterday 27/05/2026, over 50 children collapsed and were reportedly rushed to the Edo State Central Hospital after they were sprayed with tear gas.”
The development has since generated emotional reactions online, with many Nigerians condemning the alleged incident and questioning safety arrangements at public gatherings involving children.
