I Will Use Drone As My Defence Minister – Sowore
Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has sparked reactions after declaring that he would appoint a drone as Nigeria’s Minister of Defence if elected president.
Sowore made the statement during a live interview on Arise TV on Thursday while speaking on insecurity and the need for modern technology in tackling terrorism across the country.
“If I become Nigeria’s president tomorrow, my minister of defence will be a drone. That’s how much I believe in technology,” he said.
The activist argued that Nigeria’s worsening insecurity requires advanced technology, proper equipment, and committed military leadership capable of confronting terrorists effectively.
According to him, some military commanders have failed in their responsibilities by remaining in Abuja instead of actively leading operations.
“We have to have honest leaders and supervisors and officers who are not staying in Abuja fighting over land but actually fighting wars,” Sowore stated.
He also criticised the current role of the police, saying officers should focus more on internal security rather than escorting politicians or arresting people over social media comments.
Sowore further explained that his security strategy would rely heavily on drones and artificial intelligence to track and eliminate terrorists.
“I’m just going to have a control centre where people sit down and track terrorists and liquidate them,” he said.
Despite his emphasis on technology, Sowore added that solving insecurity also requires addressing poverty, unemployment, and lack of education, which he said push many young people into violence.
“Ultimately, you must create a society where people can find jobs and go to school, and not be willing to take up arms,” he added.
The statement has since generated mixed reactions online, with some Nigerians praising his focus on technology-driven security, while others questioned the practicality of the idea.
