Nigerian forward Victor Udoh dies at 21

Former Southampton and Royal Antwerp forward Victor Udoh passed away in Nigeria at the age of 21, “under suspicious circumstances,” according to some.

Udoh was found dead in Abuja, according to The Mirror UK, albeit the precise cause of death remained unknown at the time this piece was published.

The young striker just returned to Nigeria after leaving Dynamo České Budějovice, a Czech club he joined after leaving Southampton in 2025.

Royal Antwerp acknowledged his death in a statement posted on their official X Twitter account on Tuesday.

“With great sadness, RAFC has learned of the death of former player Victor Udoh (21).

“Victor joined the Bosuil in the 2023/2024 season, and in his first season with the Young Reds, he scored twelve goals in 21 appearances. That season, he also made his first-team debut at home against Charleroi. Victor appeared officially 28 times for The Great Old and provided two assists before joining Southampton.

“Our thoughts are with Victor’s family, friends, and loved ones.” We wish them strength, support, and comfort during this difficult time.

“Rest in peace, Victor,” the club wrote.

Udoh signed a three-and-a-half-year contract with Southampton and spent around seven months there without making a senior appearance before leaving by mutual consent to seek more playing time.

Before his move to England, he played for Royal Antwerp, where he advanced from the reserve squad after signing from Abuja-based Hypebuzz.

Pierre Dwomoh, Udoh’s former teammate and Watford midfielder, responded to the news on Instagram. “I woke up to it on Tuesday morning,” Dwomoh explained.
