Atlético Madrid Join Race for Victor Osimhen Amid Alvarez Exit Rumours
Atlético Madrid have emerged as the latest club linked with a move for Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen as they prepare for a potentially busy summer transfer window.
The Spanish side are reportedly monitoring Osimhen’s situation at Galatasaray amid uncertainty surrounding the future of Argentine forward Julián Álvarez, who has attracted interest from several top European clubs.
According to reports, Atlético have already made preliminary inquiries about the Super Eagles star as they assess possible options should Álvarez leave the club this summer.
Álvarez has recently been linked with a move to Arsenal, while earlier reports also connected him with Barcelona. However, the Catalan club are believed to have cooled their interest due to the striker’s reported €100 million valuation.
With questions surrounding Álvarez’s future, Atlético are now considering Osimhen as a potential replacement.
The Nigerian forward has enjoyed an outstanding spell at Galatasaray since arriving at the Turkish club, establishing himself as one of Europe’s most productive strikers.
Across two seasons, Osimhen has recorded 59 goals and 16 assists in 74 appearances in all competitions, playing a key role in the club’s domestic and European campaigns.
Spanish outlet Fichajes reports that Atlético have already initiated contact regarding a possible transfer, although Galatasaray are reportedly unwilling to consider offers below €100 million.
The report adds that Atlético could be prepared to meet the valuation if Álvarez departs the club during the transfer window.
Despite the growing speculation, Osimhen recently played down reports suggesting he is actively seeking a move away from Galatasaray.
The striker’s future became a major talking point after Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle hinted that the forward could be on the move this summer. However, sources close to the player reportedly insist he remains committed to Galatasaray and would only leave if the club decides to sanction a transfer.
Osimhen continues to attract interest from several European heavyweights, including Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea and Manchester United.
A move to Atlético Madrid would also see him reunite with fellow Super Eagles star Ademola Lookman, who joined the Spanish club earlier this year.
The Nigerian striker previously faced Atlético Madrid in the UEFA Champions League during the recently concluded season and later praised manager Diego Simeone, describing the Argentine coach as one of the most respected figures in world football.
With the summer transfer market approaching, Osimhen’s future is expected to remain one of the most closely watched stories involving African players in Europe.
