Moffi Proud to Captain Super Eagles in Unity Cup Win
Forward reflects on leadership role after Nigeria reached final in London
Terem Moffi says captaining the Nigeria national football team for the first time was a proud moment after leading the side to victory in the Unity Cup semi-final in London.
The Nigerian striker wore the captain’s armband during the team’s 2-0 win over Zimbabwe on Tuesday at The Valley, home ground of Charlton Athletic.
Moffi played a key role in the match and provided an assist for one of the goals scored by debutant Femi Azeez.
Speaking after the game, Moffi expressed pride in leading the national team and praised his teammates for their performance.
The forward said the squad showed strong character during the match and expressed hope of winning the tournament final.
The victory secured Nigeria’s place in the Unity Cup final scheduled for Saturday.
Away from international football, Moffi’s club future remains unclear following reports that FC Porto are unwilling to activate the option to sign him permanently from OGC Nice.
The striker spent the season in Portugal after reportedly leaving Nice amid tensions with supporters.
Reports indicate that several European clubs are monitoring his situation ahead of the next transfer window.
Among clubs reportedly interested in Moffi are West Ham United, Aston Villa, SS Lazio, Olympique de Marseille, and Fenerbahçe SK.
The 27-year-old has made 20 appearances for Nigeria since his international debut in 2021 and has scored four goals for the Super Eagles.
