Peter Obi, Seyi Makinde Unveil Ambitious Agendas After Securing 2027 Presidential Tickets

Former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde have unveiled separate reform agendas after emerging as presidential candidates of their respective political parties ahead of the 2027 general election.

Obi formally accepted his nomination as the presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Coalition (NDC), while Makinde secured the presidential ticket of the Allied People’s Movement (APM).

In his acceptance speech, Obi described Nigeria as a nation facing serious economic, security and governance challenges, but expressed confidence that meaningful reforms could reverse the trend.

According to him, insecurity remains one of the country’s biggest challenges and requires urgent action through intelligence-driven and technology-based security strategies.

Obi also pledged to address the root causes of insecurity by tackling poverty, unemployment and social inequality.

The former governor promised reforms in the healthcare sector, noting that Nigeria continues to struggle with poor health outcomes and low insurance coverage.

He further pledged to improve electricity generation and distribution, promising to significantly increase power supply if elected president.

Obi urged Nigerians to reject ethnic, religious and regional divisions, insisting that national unity remains essential for development and progress.

Meanwhile, Makinde used his acceptance speech to unveil what he described as a “Reset Nigeria Agenda” focused on economic recovery, institutional reforms and improved security.

The Oyo State governor promised reforms in the petroleum sector, including fair pricing mechanisms and restructuring of key institutions within the oil industry.

He also advocated reforms to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), arguing that greater efficiency and accountability are necessary for economic growth.

On security, Makinde pledged to pursue the decentralisation of Nigeria’s security architecture to enable state governments respond more effectively to local threats.

He said the current system places enormous responsibility on governors without granting them adequate authority over security operations.

Makinde also highlighted plans to strengthen agriculture, improve food security and implement practical transportation reforms aimed at easing the burden on citizens.

The governor emphasised that his campaign would focus on solutions rather than political rhetoric, promising leadership built on competence, accountability and measurable results.

With both candidates unveiling their visions for the country, political activities ahead of the 2027 general election are expected to gather momentum in the coming months.
